There is a reaction that comes from the touch of an element…the coolness of a precious metal, the glistening of a gemstone, the subtle elegance of the smallest of true cut seed beads. I experience these feelings as I gather components to create my jewelry. In each piece of metal, stone, or bead, I see a treasured piece of jewelry waiting to happen. An inner peace comes over me as I settle into my work space and imagine what will become.
My inspiration comes from colors, nature, and objects I see everyday. I create a piece in my head before I sit down to design. I manipulate components to reflect what inspired me that day—a composition of sparkle, elegance and wear-ability.
As a child I was infatuated with jewelry and its components. My father was in the Air Force, and from his many travels he would bring my mother beautiful pieces of jewelry from around the world. One of my favorites was a blue sapphire princess harem dome ring from Thailand. It had three different pieces which could be re-arranged and re-configured. Without my mother’s knowledge, I'd get the ring out of her jewelry box and would sit for hours re-configuring the ring in different ways.
Today, I design jewelry using the same technique. I re-arrange, re-configure and push stones and components around until I see a design come together. I can re-arrange a piece for hours until I feel it is just right.
My greatest hope is that, in my designs, others will see their beauty, quality, and creativeness.
